Field Day

Field Day was last Thursday, a nice start to the long Memorial Day Weekend.   It was rescheduled from a rainy day a few weeks ago.

We started the day out with Friday Morning Live and watching Maddie be recognized as the Go Getter for her class.

 

Then we headed out for some Field Day fun!  Maddie's class all made pink headbands that they painted in class. 

This is Maddie's friend.  They share a love of big bows.  Have I mentioned how happy I am that Maddie has decided she loves bows again. :-)

Guy volunteered at the Football Toss so the girls were excited when they finally made it to his station.

Talent Show

Maddie sang "Jesus Take the Wheel" in her school talent show yesterday. I was very concerned about how she would do. I was worried that she would mess up and be upset and I was worried that she would chicken out at the last minute. Boy did she prove me wrong. I asked her just before she went on stage if she was nervous, her answer "Not Really." OMG...I was so nervous for her and she was just playing with her friends without a care in the world. Once she got on stage she did look a little nervous, she had some dance moves that she added just before we left home for the show that she ended up not doing. :) I am so proud of her. She is a very brave girl. I can say without a doubt that I never would have done something like this.

Bragging :)

Okay just a little bragging post about the girls.

Maddie has been having a great year of First Grade. All very high A's on her progress reports and report card, 100 on every spelling test so far, and all Green on her behavior charts since the beginning of the year. The green's are the biggest thing because she did not get all greens last year. We promised her at the beginning of the year that if she brought home one full chart (5 weeks) of green's we would go to Gatti Town. She did it! and she is well on her way to another full chart of greens. :)


She was also student of the week a couple of weeks ago. It's not a big deal, just her name in the class newsletter, but she was very excited and proud.


And...they were both in the paper. We don't even get or read the paper, but we came home one day and there was a paper in our yard and Maycee picked it up. She said "Hey, My picture is on this paper" I really didn't believe her, but I went to see what she was looking at anyway. She was correct the way the paper was rolled up, this

picture was all you could see. It is from the Autumn fest pageant. At first Maddie was a little sad, but we opened up the paper and this was a little further down the page. I think it's the first time they've been in the paper. I still don't know how it got in our yard, but I'm sure glad it did because otherwise we wouldn't even have known about it. You know, we haven't had another paper in our yard since then either. How strange???

And just to counter act the bragging, this is what I found when they were folding laundry the other day. Silly girls..... Yes, those are panties on their heads. They were very proud of themselves and just couldn't stop giggling. LOL Maddie even has her piggy tails pulled throught the leg holes.

Family Project

Maddie had her first family project for 1st grade due last week. She had to do something to represent her family, her home and what her family enjoyed together.

This is the poster we made.

She did all the cutting and gluing herself. I helped her lay it all out on the poster board and gave her the topics to write about.

Didn't she do a great job? She loved those crazy scrapbooking scissors :) That was what took most of our time.


We already found out that she got a 100 for a grade. It wasn't too hard to get though, because you got 60 points just for turning it in on time.

Maycee and Maddie were having a hard time agreeing on just how much Maycee should be helping on this family project, so Maycee got to make her own project with some of the leftover pictures. She scored a 100 also!!

My Beautiful Maddie-I can't believe how fast you are growing up. It is amazing what a mature little girl you are turning into. You are such a great helper and an exceptional big sissy! It seems like only yesterday that you made your grand entrance into this world and stole our hearts forever. Happy 7th Birthday Sweetie! I Love You!--♥ Mommy

Today I will bringing cupcakes to Maddie's school for her to share with her class. She is very excited. We went to Walmart last night to pick them out. She picked a chocolate Hannah Montana guitar cupcake cake without hesitation. She also picked Hannah Montana napkins and Koolaid coolers for drinks.

Traditionally on her birthday she gets to pick anything she could think of for her breakfast. (It is inevitably gonna be a day filled with sugar.) Guess what she picked....cake! It is a little bitty white cake with sprinkles and she was a little disappointed when I told her she had to share it with Maycee. She'll be happy in a 2 weeks when Maycee has to share her special breakfast in return. ;-)

She also has a lunch surprise coming at school tomorrow that she has no idea about, so that will be very exciting for her. After all the sugar and excitement, it will be a miracle if she keeps up this year's pattern of no color changes at school.

After school Maddie won't get her normal choice of dinner out with family because she has cheer practice until 7:30 and Girl Scouts registration after that. Dinner has been postponed until Friday night, but the location is still anybody's guess as she hasn't decided.

1st Day of School

Yesterday was Maddie's first day of first grade. She was very excited. Here she is before we left to bring her to school. I made her outfit and she was very excited about it. You can't really see them in the picture, but I think she was most excited about the flip flops I made with bows on them.

This is what Maycee was doing while we took Maddie's picture. (fixing Ruthie's hair) I thought Maycee would be sad that Maddie was gone all day, but she really enjoyed having the house to herself. She was ready to go pick her 'sissy' up in the afternoon though. She was full of questions for Maddie about how her day went.

She had homework last night to bring 3 things that fit in a lunch sack to tell about herself.

She brought

1) a disney picture so she could show she likes disney and that she has a little sister and a cousin (poor Kennedi isn't in the picture,but she said she was gonna say she has 2 cousins)

2) a ballet necklace to show whe like to wear jewelry and that she likes ballet

3) an American girl cheerleading book to tell that her favorite thing to play with is her American girl dolls and that her favorite sport is cheerleading

It was interesting to see what she picked to bring.

Ready for School

We are all ready for school to start. We finished school supply shopping about a week and a half ago. I had to go to 5 or 6 stores to find everything (and I never did find Prang Watercolors.) I can't imagine trying to do that at the lastt minute after things are picked over. We bought an extra set of supplies because last year there were some kids in Maddie's class who didn't bring supplies. She was so good about remembering to get double of everything we picked out. It was so sweet, she asked if they were for a boy or a girl and I said I didn't know, so she made it a point to pick out colors of everything that a boy or a girl would like. She is such a sweetie. I couldn't believe when I found out from one of my friends who is a teacher the amount of money teachers spend on supplies. So hopefully that set will help a tiny bit.

Anyway, her backpack came in a couple days ago. I found it in the Pottery Barn catalog and thought it was adorable. I know that Pottery Barn is way too expensive, but their stuff is such good quality and they stand behind it.

Side note story....For Christmas one year we bought the girls each an anywhere chair with their name monogrammed on it. They loved them for watching tv in the mornings and the covers came off so that we could wash them in the washing machine. About a month after Christmas the next year the zipper on Maycee's broke. So I decided to order her a new cover since you can't use the chair without the cover because of he way it is made. I called to order and wanted hem to look up the previous order to make sure the font on the monogram would match and when they saw it was only a little over their year warranty they said they were replacing it for free. Now that is customer service. They monogrammed a new one and sent to us. We didn't pay shipping or anything and on top of that they didn't need me to send the old one back which saved me a trip to the post office. Now that is customer service!!!

Anyway it was funny because Maddie wanted the solid color one, but I wanted polka dots. We talked about it back and forth for about 2 weeks and then we got a new catalog with this picture of some kids wearing the backpacks. They were standing in front of a blackboard with their grade written next to them. They girl wearing the polka dot backpack in the picture said 3rd grade and suddenly that was the one Maddie wanted. LOL.

She wanted Maddie, not Madeline monogrammed on it. She never wants anything monogrammed with Madeline and she doesn't like to be called Madeline. Hmm...it's might be because the only time we call her that is when she's in trouble.

On Wednesday, Maddie got her postcard saying who her new teacher is. Her name is Mrs. Hardin and Maddie is very excited. She remembered her from last year and said she is very nice. She is also happy because lots of her friends are in her class...Elli, Kai, and Robbie from our neighborhood and Lanay from her cheer squad.


Last night was Meet the Teacher. We brought all of Maddie's supplies to her classroom, met her teacher and got to see were her desk is. She has a desk instead of a table this year. That is a big thing to her.
